Going, Going, Gone - Getting Back to the Basics for Acne Sufferers

Anyone that suffers with acne (Zits) may feel as if they spend most of their time searching for remedies; fortunately, the problems it causes are being investigated. Research into the causes, and possible treatments, for the condition is ongoing; gradually more effective topical treatments are being discovered and made available. We can classify acne skin care products into 3 broad categories:

* Internet or Drugstore: Treatment that helps prevents condition
* Drugstore or Internet: Treatments that do not require a prescription
* Specialized, on-prescription acne products

Many skin care products are used as a measure to prevent acne; for example, special toners and skin cleansers. In the real sense, these products are just those that should be part of your daily routine; often used by those who want to prevent future skin problems from occurring. Other acne skin care products, like skin cleansers for instance, are more specific about their job; they are formulated to reduce and limit the amount of oil in the pores of our skin. When the pores become clogged with this oil, bacteria which can cause the problem begin to grow.

Other skin care treatments can help exfoliate the skin; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. This type of peel helps reduce the chance of oil clogging up the pores as well as removing other skin impurities; this can reduce the bacterium growth on your skin. Many other acne skin care products have become available over the counter and on the internet; they don't usually require a prescription. These products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as ingredients which cause a bad reaction in the bacterium. they are designed to extract the excess oil that bacteria need to promote the development of acne.

It is often a good idea to start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5 percent) to see how the skin responds; an alternative to this includes products which contain alpha hydroxy acid. Because we all have different types of skin, more than one type of acne skin care product may need to be tried; if none of them work then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist. On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment.

Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist; although this is a minor procedure, if it were performed by the person themselves it could result in skin damage. Your doctor could prescribe a hormone-based treatment to treat your skin problem; hormonal changes are known to cause acne and such skin care treatments often effective. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects.
