Art Equals Peace

It is actually very sad, and at the same time funny to be presenting papers, or conducting workshops on Peacebuilding through the Arts because Arts is really about peace-it has one and the same meaning, only the spelling is different. Yet, time and again, we have to convince other people, especially funding bodies that what we do is essentially peacemaking. An example of how Art equals Peace is this experience I had when I attended the Flying Circus Project 2000 in Singapore. The 21-day workshop-interaction organized by Theatreworks, Ltd. based in Singapore gathered 75 dance, theatre, music, traditional, visual, and film artists all over Asia, many of who did not speak English.

Ukrainian Lifestyle

Speaking about modern Ukrainian customs and traditions it is necessary to stress that the Ukrainians are proud of their colorful folk culture. They love good food and drink and have a zest for life. Most Ukrainian middle-class and lower class urban families live in flat in multi-storied buildings; only rather rich people can afford to build cottages either inside or outside the city. Ukrainians have a deep love of the land. Many families have small country houses, called "dacha". They are able to grow just about anything in their neat gardens, orchards, and homesteads. Some people grow food only for their own personal consumption. They spend time canning vegetables and making compote from various fruits during the summer in order to make it through the long cold winters.

The Bhutto family has experienced deaths in the most humiliating manner and all of them follow the same way. Like her Father, two brothers and she herself was murdered. Alcoholism - An Unfortunate Consequence for Native Americans

Alcoholism has been a common problem among Native Americans since the beginning of the 1700s. Popular belief has this caused by the loss of their native lands and the loss of a portion of their culture to the habitation and growing population movements in the United States among "foreigners" (Europeans) who came to settle the country. It is difficult to pin down one exact reason why alcoholism becomes prevalent in a societal group. Most likely, it is a combination of several factors. It is widely believed, in the case of the Native Americans, that conditions such as poverty, unemployment, loss of ancestral homes, broken promises and hostility from the white settlers, feelings of hopelessness, poor overall general health, and the collapse of the Native American family unit were contributing factors.
