The adverse effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on behavioral, cognitive, and social development can lead to a range of symptoms referred to as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Attention and cognition problems seen in individuals with a history of prenatal alcohol exposure often resemble those linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD ). An assessment of these disorders has found that while children with FASD may meet the behavioral criteria for ADHD, their attention difficulties differ in subtle but important respects. Results will be published in the April 2010 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research and are currently available at Early View.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Food and Drug Administration "this week released a draft of voluntary guidelines to assist drug makers in figuring out which compounds should be placed under the Controlled Substances Act. The law regulates the handling, record-keeping and dispensing of drugs deemed to be dangerous or addictive if misused -- in some cases imposing criminal penalties for misuse. The guidelines urge researchers to look beyond traditional indicators such as whether a compound is addictive and consider other characteristics that could lead to abuse." One example of a drug that could be more tightly restricted is the anesthetic propofol, part of the "cocktail of drugs that caused the death" of Michael Jackson (Zajac, 1/28).
A joint GA¬ LEN /EAACI report to be published in "Allergy" and available online on 8 February reviews new data on the treatment of allergies with older antihistamines compared with newer, second-generation H1-antihistamines. The research was funded by GA¬ LEN, an EU-funded Network of Excellence. The findings suggest that first-generation H1-antihistamines not only make patients drowsy, but also reduce rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, impair learning, and reduce efficiency at work the next day. In addition, first-generation H1-antihistamines have been implicated in numerous civil aviation, motor vehicle, and boating accidents, and even deaths as a result of accidental or intentional overdosing in infants and young children.
A controlled study by a group of German investigators published in the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics indicates that brief group psychotherapy is helpful for clearing fears of disease progression (FoP) in patients with chronic arthritis or cancer. The interventions comprised either cognitive-behavioral group therapy or supportive-experiential group therapy. The investigators tested whether these generic interventions would prove effective in different illness types. Chronic arthritis in- patients (n = 174) and cancer in-patients (n = 174), respectively, were randomized to receive one of the two interventions. The patients provided data before intervention, at discharge, and at 3 and 12 months of follow-up.
SOMA 250 MG Shown To Significantly Improve Functionality And Reduce Disability In Patients With Low Back Pain In Three Days
A recent analysis of two pivotal clinical trials in patients with acute low back pain (ALBP) who were treated with SOMA® (carisoprodol) 250 mg showed significantly improved functionality and reduced disability after three days of treatment, as measured by the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ). This analysis is being presented this week at the 26th annual meeting of the American Academy of Pain Medicine in San Antonio, TX. In addition, a recent review of published literature indicates that SOMA 250 mg is the only skeletal muscle relaxant proven to significantly improve functionality in patients with acute low back pain as measured by the RMDQ.
Mizzou Scientist Creates A Chicken Substitute, Providing A Low-Cost, Tasty Way To Add Soy To The Diet
Sure, some delicacies might taste just like chicken, but they usually feel and look much different. Soy meat alternatives, such as the soy burger, have become more popular recently, with increased sales of eight percent from 2007 to 2008. Now, scientists at the University of Missouri have created a soy substitute for chicken that is much like the real thing. The new soy chicken also has health benefits, including lowering cholesterol and maintaining healthy bones. Fu-Hung Hsieh, an MU professor of biological engineering and food science in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the College of Engineering, is leading the project to create a low-cost soy substitute for chicken.
An article published Online First and in an upcoming edition of The Lancet reports that new research based on a meta-analysis of thirteen statin trials has shown that use of statins increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 9 percent. Still, the absolute risk is low, especially when compared with the beneficial effect that statins have on reducing coronary events. The article is the work of Professor Naveed Satar and Dr David Preiss, Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Glasgow, UK, and colleagues. Trials of statin therapy on the risk of development of diabetes in patients given statins have had inconsistent findings. To eliminate this doubt, the authors did a meta-analysis of published and unpublished data in order to find out whether any relation exists between statin use and development of diabetes.
On Monday, the Prime Minister gave a speech in which he called for more people to be treated in their own homes by the NHS in future. As a partner to the NHS, in providing healthcare in their own homes to 14, 000 patients, many with complex conditions, Bupa the leading international healthcare company, strongly supports his comments. Steve Flanagan, managing director of Bupa Home Healthcare said: "We agree with the Prime Minister's views that it is better for patients to be treated in their own homes. "Our experience of caring for 14, 500 NHS patients in their own homes shows it can be more cost-effective, helps avoid hospital-acquired infections, and produces higher levels of patient satisfaction.
Pamphlets detailing the warning signs associated with heart disease may soon end up in an unexpected location: your child's pediatrician's office. According to new research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in five American teens has at least one risk factor for developing heart disease in adulthood. With heart health front-and-center this month in honor of American Heart Month, most media coverage will focus on at-risk adults. But that's a mistake according to Sarah Wally, a dietitian with the National Association for Margarine Manufacturers. "Although heart disease is typically diagnosed in adulthood, its roots often begin in childhood, " says Wally.

Naurex Inc. Reports Positive Top-Line Phase I Results For Its Novel Mechanism NMDA Receptor Modulator GLYX-13 In Treatment-Resistant Depression
Naurex Inc., a clinical stage company developing innovative treatments for depression and other CNS disorders based on its novel glycine site functional partial agonist (GFPA) NMDA receptor modulators, today reported positive top-line results from its Phase I clinical trial of lead compound GLYX-13. GLYX-13 is a GFPA selective modulator of the NMDA receptor. It is initially being developed as a therapy for treatment-resistant depression in severely depressed patients. In the Phase I trial, adverse events were similar for subjects receiving GLYX-13 and placebo and were all rated as mild. There were no signs of the schizophrenia-like side effects associated with other NMDA receptor modulator drugs.
In type 2 diabetes, which is occurring at alarming rates, the hormone insulin does not work effectively to lower blood sugars and patients also do not make enough insulin. These two processes have been widely considered as separate. However, a surprising discovery was made by Joslin Diabetes Center researchers in animal models of diabetes: insulin is important in regulating its own production. Confirming this discovery, Joslin clinical scientists have now gone on to show that when blood sugar levels rise in healthy people, insulin signals the cells that make insulin to increase their production. Our bodies absorb sugar when we eat carbohydrates, and insulin acts as a "key" for the sugar to get into cells, where it provides energy for the cells to function.
Dysphagia is a medical term that is used to refer to difficulties with swallowing. The level of dysphagia varies. Some people have problems swallowing certain foods or liquids, while others are completely unable to swallow. It takes more time and effort to move food or liquid from the mouth to the stomach. Difficulty swallowing may also be associated with pain. Persistent difficulty swallowing may indicate a serious medical condition requiring treatment. The term " dysphagia " derives from the Greek root dys meaning "difficulty or disordered", and phagia meaning "to eat". According to Medilexicon's medical dictionary : Dysphagia is " Difficulty in swallowing ".
A study by CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS), published this week in the American Journal of Pharmacy Benefits, finds that insurance benefit designs that reduce the cost of medications for plan participants result in patients being more likely to start and stay on their medication therapy. The study compared more than 20, 000 plan participants in value-based insurance design (VBID) plans to more than 190, 000 participants of similar age and gender breakdowns in standard three-tier plans. The study concluded initiation and adherence rates for both insulin and oral diabetes medicines among participants in value-based plans were significantly higher. "There have been discussions around the impact of price and affordability on patients' ability and willingness to start and stay on their medications and this research adds to that body of knowledge.
The phrase "perk up your ears" made more sense last year after scientists discovered how the quietest sounds are amplified in the cochlea before being transmitted to the brain. When a sound is barely audible, extremely sensitive inner-ear "hair cells" - which are neurons equipped with tiny, sensory hairs on their surface - pump up the sound by their very motion and mechanically amplify it. Richard Rabbitt of the University of Utah, a faculty member in the MBL's Biology of the Inner Ear course, reported last spring on the magnification powers of the hair cell's hairs. Now, Rabbitt and MBL senior scientist Stephen Highstein have evidence that hair cells perform similarly in another context - in the vestibular system, which sends information about balance and spatial orientation to the brain.
New analyses from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) confirm that combination hormone therapy increases the risk of heart disease in healthy postmenopausal women. Researchers report a trend toward an increased risk of heart disease during the first two years of hormone therapy among women who began therapy within 10 years of menopause, and a more marked elevation of risk among women who began hormone therapy more than 10 years after menopause. Analyses indicate that overall a woman's risk of heart disease more than doubles within the first two years of taking combination HT. The difference in the initial level of risk does not appear related to age, based on findings that the increased risk of heart disease was similar between women in their 50s on combination hormone therapy and women in their 60s.
University of Queensland research has shown "canecutter's" disease is a growing problem for travellers. A team led by PhD researcher Dr Colleen Lau from the School of Population Health, has discovered the disease, known medically as leptospirosis, was traditionally a concern for males working in the agricultural and livestock industries, as it is contracted from contact with the urine of host animals. Ms Lau said recreational exposure and international travel have emerged as increasingly important sources of infection over the past decade. "Many of the areas with a high incidence of leptospirosis are popular destinations for domestic and international travellers, " Dr Lau said.
The more specialized a hospital is in orthopedic surgical care, the better the outcomes appear to be for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery, University of Iowa researchers report in a new study of Medicare patients. Among more specialized hospitals, there were fewer serious post-surgical complications such as blood clots, infections and heart problems, as well as fewer deaths. The findings, which were published online Feb. 11 by the British Medical Journal, were based on data for nearly 1.3 million patients who received hip or knee replacement surgeries between 2001 and 2005 at 3, 818 hospitals in the United States. "The findings suggest that more specialized hospitals have better outcomes even after we account for the type of patients each hospital cares for and the number of hip and knee replacement surgeries that each hospital performs, " said the study's lead author Tyson Hagen, M.
Oestrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may increase the risk of developing asthma after the menopause, suggests a large scale study published ahead of print in the journal Thorax. The authors base their findings on 57, 664 women, who were quizzed about their use of HRT and development of asthma symptoms every two years between 1990 and 2002. All the women were taking part in the French E3N study, which includes almost 100, 000 women born between 1925 and 1950, and is the French component of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). None of these women had asthma when menopausal symptoms began. The monitoring period equated to 495, 448 person years in all, of which over a third was accounted for by women who had not used HRT (35.
Victims of child sexual abuse are at increased risk of suicide and accidental fatal drug overdose later in life, according to the authors of a study published in the Medical Journal of Australia. Dr Margaret Cutajar, a psychologist from the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science at Monash University, Melbourne, and her co-authors, Professors James Ogloff and Paul Mullen, investigated rates of fatal self-harm in 2759 people who were medically ascertained as being victims of child sexual abuse (CSA) between 1964 and 1995. They found significantly higher rates of suicide and accidental fatal drug overdose in the CSA cohort compared with age-limited national data for the general population, with relative risks of 18.
The NFU is furious after learning that the findings of a review, which revealed errors in a report claiming a link between red meat consumption and cancer, have not been shared with policy makers. It has joined livestock levy body Eblex in its concern over flawed figures that are contained in a report from the World Cancer Research Fund. The initial report, first published in 2007, has been widely used as proof of a link between eating red meat and developing cancer. However, two leading scientists have now highlighted a number of errors which include analytical inconsistencies and data extraction errors in the evidence. These are thought to have contributed to overestimations being made by the WCRF in its conclusions linking red meat and cancer.
Although obesity is a risk factor for diabetes and coronary heart disease worldwide, only some obese individuals go on to develop these metabolic complications, while others are relatively protected. Defining these protective factors could help scientists prevent disease in the wider population. To this end, a research team at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, led by Suneil Koliwad, MD, PhD, recently added new details that link obesity to diabetes and heart disease. When individuals become obese from overeating, cells called adipocytes located in the fat tissue fill up with dietary fats and begin to die. Immune cells called macrophages move out of the blood stream and into this tissue, where they accumulate around dying adipocytes.
New Research Gives Insight To The Frequency Of 'Doctor Shopping' Occurring Within Prescription Monitoring Programs
Research presented at the American Academy of Pain Medicine's 26th Annual Meeting provides early published data analyzing information gathered from California's prescription monitoring program, known as the Controlled Substances Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES). The analysis found a two-fold increase in the likelihood of individuals receiving opioids from multiple providers or "doctor shopping" when they were also being simultaneously prescribed a single additional class of a controlled substances, such as benzodiazepines or amphetamines. When there was more than one additional drug class involved, there was a 13-fold increase for individuals seeing multiple providers.
Decreased muscle strength is associated with difficulty in performing functional activities such as stooping, crouching, or kneeling (SCK) in older adults, according to an observational study published in the January issue of Physical Therapy, (PTJ) the scientific journal of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). These researchers found that adults with SCK difficulty had significant decreases in adjusted strength measurements of trunk extensor, knee extensor, and ankle flexion muscles. Concluding that measurements of strength predict SCK difficulty, their study sets the stage for research exploring whether rehabilitation programs that focus on training specific muscle groups are effective in improving functional performance and whether improvements in functional performance reduces falls in older adults.
Hey guys, remember the muscle shirts we wore in our teens and 20s? After the age of 40 that meager part of our wardrobes usually is obsolete. Yes, at the big 4-0 we begin to lose muscle, and by age 80 up to a third of it may be gone. It's an inevitable process of aging called sarcopenia. Why does sarcopenia happen and can it be stopped? A study conducted in mice with accelerated muscle loss at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio provides this insight: Less protection from antioxidants and more damage from oxidative stress results in impairment to cells' energy centers, which slowly leads to death of muscle cells. A team directed by Holly Van Remmen, Ph.
A study in the Feb. 15 issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine shows that sleepiness at the wheel and poor sleep quality significantly increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents in adolescents. Results indicate that adolescent drivers were twice as likely to have had a crash if they experienced sleepiness while driving (adjusted odds ratio = 2.1) or reported having bad sleep (OR = 1.9). Eighty of the 339 students had already crashed at least once, and 15 percent of them considered sleepiness to have been the main cause of the crash. Fifty-six percent of students who had at least one previous crash reported driving while sleepy, compared with 35 percent of subjects who had not been in a crash.
Patients with head and neck cancer linked to high risk human papillomavirus, or HPV, have worse outcomes if they are current or former tobacco users, according to a new study from researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. High-risk HPVs are the same viruses that are associated with cancers of the uterine cervix. The research suggests that current or former tobacco users may need a more aggressive treatment regimen than patients who have never used tobacco. Past research shows that HPV-positive head and neck cancers tend to be more responsive to current treatments and these patients overall tend to have better outcomes than patients with HPV-negative tumors.

A pilot investigation performed by a group of Italian investigators and published in the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics indicates that supportive-expressive group therapy is helpful in patients with breast cancer. So far, no study has tested supportive-expressive group therapy (SEGT) in cancer patients with an established psychiatric diagnosis. The aim of this 6-month follow-up study was to evaluate breast cancer patients with an ICD-10 diagnosis of affective syndromes participating in SEGT and a group of breast cancer patients with no ICD-10 diagnosis. A total of 214 patients were examined in the screening phase (T0) using the ICD-10, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), the Mini-Mental Adjustment-to-Cancer Scale (Mini-MAC), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Openness Scale and the Cancer Worries Inventory (CWI).
There are times that you are going to get caught up in the middle of a bad relationship. It is definitely not a pleasant thing, and I wish it could be avoided all together, but life is not perfect and neither are relationships. There are going to be times in a relationship when you just want to walk away, but for some reason you stay and not quite sure why. The bottom line... love won't let you leave. I know it's frustrating at times when you get your heart broke time after time just to find yourself in the same situation yet again with the same person, and you do what you've always done; you stay! People around you think you are crazy and want to give you advice about what you should do.
When given a task to do or you are faced with a challenge of any kind, what are the first words out of your mouth? If you are like most people, the words "I can't", " I do not know how", "I am unable to" etc. are rolling off your tongue without a thought. Those words roll out of your mouth automatically. There are others however who think about the words that come to mind first, and then decide whether they should let them out. What is the difference? It is being strategic with your words. Think of your words as a loaded gun or a tool. When faced with a challenge your reaction might be to take that loaded gun and start shooting. The result of shooting a loaded gun randomly without any thought causes more damage and will more than likely not do a thing to help your situation.
Lately I've been working with an increasing number of black women dating white guys. The funny thing is that their struggles and the questions they ask me about dating white guys remind me of myself a few years ago. I am a "typical" African man's woman with a guitar-body shape, and even at a very early age, I knew that I drove guys crazy with every "calculated' movement of my body especially my rear side. And being somewhat of an athletic tom-boy, I had so many opportunities to do just that. I was in their face but just out of touch kind of thing. I probably would have been slapped with a sexual harassment suit here in Canada --and that is why I have toned it down.
The whole point with the internet "experience" is to find the one for you. The sooner you find the one for you, the sooner you can get out of the "cyber space jungle"! It can be tiring and nerve wracking after a while. Is she the one for you? One of my mother's favorite relationship expression is: "Mrs. Right will act right! " Period. There is a lot of truth in that... and I have spent many years trying to prove her wrong. To date? Mama is still right... Is she the one for you? You can picture her blending into your world. Not outside looking in, not standing above or around, but totally within your world. Do you want her in your world? If you can answer yes.

If you are on a workout program that is designed to build muscle, you may have considered supplementing your diet with individual amino acids. Many of those who are into bodybuilding pay a great deal of attention to their protein intake because protein supplies the body with the main building blocks that it will use to build muscle. Are individual amino acids necessary though? Or can you obtain all you need through a regular mixed diet? What Amino Acids Do Amino acids are typically found in protein rich foods such as meat, fish, dairy, as well as some legumes, and in order to achieve a proper intake of all the amino acids you require, eating a mixed diet is going to be the way to go.

If you are experiencing pain in the ear, some of the most effective home remedies for ear pain can help relieve the discomfort that you are going through. Ear pain is medically referred to as Otalgia, which can be caused by fluid accumulation in the middle part of the inner ear. It can also be caused by different factors including a blockage in the tube connecting the ear to the nose known as Eustachian tube. When this happens, there are increased chances that bacteria and infection may build-up in the area leading to fluid gathering, which is the main cause of pain in the ear. While regular cleaning of the nasal and ear passage can help keep away pollutants from entering the ear, too much cleaning of the ear especially when using cotton buds may also bring about damage to the ear.

The Internet and computers have been heralded to increase productivity and allow us to work from remote locations with flexible schedules. For the most part, computers and technology has offered many the freedom and flexibility as promised. However, as with all advances, unexpected set backs often occur. One result of increased use of technology is the large spans of time spent behind a computer screen without breaks or rest. For some, this can lead to increased eye fatigue and mental strain. However, research indicates the unique antioxidants naturally found in blueberries may help reduce eye fatigue, help to improve vision and help the brain function better.
Each hair grows out of a hair follicle. The follicle does not sit on the top of the skin. The follicle is in a sebaceous gland, a tiny indentation in the skin. The process of hair growth begins in the follicle. The human body contains two types of hairs. Most of the body is covered with vellus hairs. The scalp and the eyebrow both contain terminal hairs. This article will describe the process for hair growth in a terminal hair. During a human's first year of life, all of the terminal hairs on his or her head grow at the same rate. After an infant becomes a toddler then different terminal hairs grow at different rates. Each hair on the toddler's head has a different growth cycle.
All crystals are magical when you think about it. Magic can be defined as being part of any natural wonder of the Earth. The entire Earth is made up of one third quartz, and quartz is basically fossilized water, it is only natural that they would hold a magical drawing to humans who are made up of 98% water. A crystal has a magnetic field of vibrational energy. That energy can subtly change the electromagnetic field within our physical bodies when laid upon a person. Using Chrysoprase as a healing crystal can provide a soothing feeling to a lonely and broken heart. The green chrysoprase crystal is associated with the heart chakra. It is especially important when using a crystal for healing, that the crystal be cleansed and charged before you use it.

Amongst people there is an assumption that meditation is a form of relaxation, a daily pause, a de-stressing tool... well, all this is correct, however these descriptions express only the side effects of meditation. In order to understand the meaning of meditation in a deep and clearer way we have to understand the two spiritual dimensions in which we live - the dimension of thought and being. The dimension of thought - thoughts, time, dreams, imagination, memories, logic, activeness, separation, duality. The dimension of being - emotion, feelings, breath, peace, receiving, passiveness, unity. If we conclude the main behaviours of each aspect then the main dimension of thought is - creativity and the main function of the behaviour of being is the experience.
As you probably read or seen somewhere many times, the subject and practices of weight loss and weight control can be very emotional and (if allowed) somewhat stressful and controversial because it is vastly misunderstood by the masses and even more so, by those who are unfortunately affected by the problem of its unsightliness. Overweight people as a group; generally and unfortunately tend to play with the problem of weight loss and its control by the way that they generally approach its correction. They do so, more emotionally and stressfully in the hope of some sort of miracle to happen. Rather than approaching the problem rationally with the commonsense and patience that its cure and control requires, this approach is stressful, repressive and self destructive.

The basic formulae for custom made perfume is 15% to 30% essential oil, 70% to 80% of pure grain alcohol, such as vodka, and 5% of distilled or bottled spring water, however the precise formulae of commercial perfumes are kept secret.
"The excellency of every art is its intensity, capable of making all disagreeable evaporate."- John Keats A true art is one which is centered on a timeline of events of the world. New art styles have appeared and vanished, with the beginning of the industrial revolution and have meanwhile reflected the gradual changes that have taken place in art in our society. The 19th century painters considered art to be a representation of images that reflects moral values, Christian sentiments, righteous conducts, virtuous behaviors and noble sacrifices. The history of modern art starts with impressionism in Paris - a movement against the rigid painting done inside academy.

During the Great Depression Richard Wright changed several other jobs. For following the Wall Street crash which ushered in the depression, the volume of mails dropped, Wright's working hours were thus cut back considerably before he finally lost his postal job. He then began work, in 1930, on a novel, Cesspool, about black life in Chicago that was published posthumously as Lawd Today! reflecting his experience in the post office. In 1931 Wright published a short story, "Superstition, " in Abbott's Monthly Magazine, a black journal. But unfortunately the journal fails before Wright collects any money from them. He was also given the opportunity to write through the Federal Writers' Project.
I just can't believe some of the ridiculous things you can find on product labels these days. For instance, I've got a 2 ton floor jack with an adjustment screw on the side that has a plastic cap clamped right on the top of the adjustment screw with the words "Do Not Adjust" printed on it. Now, if I'm not supposed to adjust it, why does it come with an adjustment screw? Hmmm? But wait! There are far worse labels than this. That was just a simple one to get you warmed up. The other day I bought a bottle of generic "aspirin". Now, you know how generic brands always ask you to compare them to name brand products. This one was no different. On the label of the generic "aspirin" it said to "compare to the main active ingredient in 'Bayer Aspirin'".
Disney is well known for their beautifully animated fairy tales and the characters from them that have captivated us, just as much as its icon mouse since 1928. Something that many people do not know about our treasured Disney Princess stories from the Walt Disney Company is that many of them were based on already existing works. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first animated feature film produced by Walt Disney in 1937. The film was originally based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm titled 'Snow White'. The Brothers Grimm, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm were German academics and were responsible for many popular fairy tales that include 'Rumpelstiltskin', 'Rapunzel', 'Hansel and Gretel' and 'The Frog Prince'.

Drawing on the insane humor of the much loved "cult" movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", Monty Python's Spamalot has been wowing the audience on Broadway since it opened in March 2005. With a story line roughly looking at the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, the spoof musical parodies everything in sight in its quest to bring the audience to their knees in laughter. It pokes fun laughs at the Arthurian legend and quaint old English mannerisms, and satirizes that great institution that we love dearly: the Broadway musical! Some famous tunes and references to Python offerings from the 1970's make it to the stage including 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", and nods to "the Lumberjack Song" and "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch and the "Dead Parrot" sketch.
Has there ever been a time in your life when you have all of a sudden really wanted to achieve or buy something and then everyone else seems to also want it. It might also be that the thing that you want, whether that is a car or a job or maybe even an experience, you are starting to see it everywhere you go, on billboards, in magazines, people talking about it and it is on the television. Why is it now everywhere, now that you are interested in it, and yet earlier you did not notice it at all? Relevance is a big part of the picture to why we see things or not within the world around us. We choose daily what is important to use and what we decide to focus on.
Dolls and bears make good photo subjects. Why? They don't move for one thing. Don't get red-eye. You can go back and back. With today's digital cameras you can see immediately if your shot succeeded and re-do it for other effects. You can cheat with an over-large outfit folded around behind the doll or use a "real" prop like an actual cookie with a child doll and fool the eye of the viewer. Dolls and bears in photography take us into other worlds, other lives. Visual fairy tales. How wonderful to be able to glimpse a moment of someone else's story? Let's face it taking pictures of dolls and bears is just plain fun. Yes, it is also work. Sometimes, like with any other subject the picture just does not come together and all the photographer ends up with is a headache.
Terza rima is a rhyming verse stanza form that consists of an interlocking three line rhyme scheme. It was first used by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri. Most recently, it was used by Jonas Hyde in his epic release, Lament for Lady Beth. Terza rima is a three-line stanza using chain rhyme in the pattern a-b-a, b-c-b, c-d-c, d-e-d. There is no limit to the number of lines, but poems or sections of poems written in terza rima end with either a single line or couplet repeating the rhyme of the middle line of the final tercet. The two possible endings for the example above are d-e-d, e or d-e-d, e-e. In Lament for Lady Beth, Hyde uses the form of a-b-a-b-c-b-c-d-c-d-d.
