Why You Should Choose a Wheat and Dairy Free Diet

It absolutely goes without saying that most Americans eat a terrible diet. We all eat way too much processed food, not enough natural food, and the balance of our calories is all out of whack. The sugars that we eat are processed, and the meats that we eat are treated with hormones. We eat genetically engineered vegetables and grains, and in general, we eat nothing like people did one hundred years ago, which certainly accounts for the high rate of obesity in our country.

There are any number of reasons why you should be choosing a wheat and dairy free diet, but whatever your reason is, you will notice an almost immediate difference in how your body feels, not to mention your weight. The most common reason why people choose a wheat and dairy free diet is because they have found out that they have an allergy to gluten or that they are yeast intolerant. Both of these are very serious issues that can cause a lifetime of misery for sufferers, and often lead to almost non-stop yeast infections which are no fun at all!

But even if you don't have a history of gluten or yeast issues, the move to a wheat and dairy free diet is a great one. The great fitness expert, Jack LaLanne gave up dairy products as a child and is still living strong and healthy at the age of 96!

A wheat and dairy free diet is not the easiest change you will ever make and if you live with other people in your house, then you will certainly need their cooperation. Your diet will completely change, with everything from breads and pastries to cheeses and yogurts having to be eliminated completely.

One of the first things that you will find when you go on a wheat and dairy free diet is that when you start to really read nutritional labels, you will find out that almost every food that you eat that is processed contains either wheat or dairy products. You will have to really look close at every product you buy and make sure that they specifically say that they are gluten free, wheat free, and dairy free. This can sometimes be hard to find.

You can get a lot of help in changing your diet by looking into alternative recipe books and diet plans. They will be able to give you ideas on dishes you can cook that are both affordable and tasty, and don't include the forbidden products. This can take a while at first, but once you get used to eating a little differently, you will begin to enjoy experimenting more in the kitchen.

The advantages of a wheat and dairy free diet are virtually innumerable because our bodies simply weren't meant to be eating this type of food. As Jack LaLanne once said, the only animals that should be drinking cow's milk are baby cows, and that theory has allowed him to be a role model for millions of people over the past century.
