Just how important is drinking pure, bio-available (living) water, losing weight, and feeling great? Lots of folklore surrounds this topic, of course. However, the good news is that this folklore inspired Brenda Davy, PhD and associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech to conduct scientific research investigating whether drinking pure, healthy water aids in losing weight.
Dr. Davy's 2010 study on the subject proves that drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water before meals will help people get rid of their pounds more quickly and effectively. "Increased water consumption is an effective weight loss strategy," says Dr. Davy.
Her findings will be presented at the 2010 National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston. Several health and nutrition organizations including Discovery Health report Dr. Davy's study. Research further suggests that drinking pure, bio-available water encourages the body to produce more heat, to boost metabolism, and to burn more calories. Drinking water as a drink of choice also means that less or no consumption of sodas or coffee drinks, generally high-calorie sugar-filled drinks.
Water not only makes people feel fuller, but also increases metabolism, which aids tremendously in exercise-and leads to more weight loss. Water also increases energy, another staple resource for exercise whereas dehydration is one of the leading causes of fatigue. Since water increases the oxygen flow to cells, the heart doesn't have to work as hard to pump blood through the body letting you feel more relaxed and energized to get on that elliptical machine. Simple science.
Most of all, drinking water is effective in weight loss. Actually, without sufficient water consumption weight cannot be lost, even if you were dieting. No diet works without water!
The same studies that prove that water leads to weight loss also contend that most of us won't stick to our food plans, at least not for long.
