A Healthy Balanced Diet Can Change Your Entire Outlook On Life
How many of you have tried dieting? How many have been successful? How many have been successful only to gain the weight back once you start eating normally again; notice that phrase - "eating normally". Any diet that changes the way you eat rather than teaches you to eat properly is probably not going to work. It may help you lose a few pounds to fit into that holiday dress, but you are likely to gain the weight back within weeks of getting off the diet. Why is this, you might be asking. Most diets focus on large calorie cuts in order to lose weight quick rather than focusing on what is important - eating healthy.
If you are serious about losing weight, the first thing you need to come to terms with is that losing weight is about taking care of yourself, not starving yourself. There is nothing wrong with wanting to lose a few pounds, but it is not a healthy focal point. Working out and focusing on proper health and nutrition are about caring for your health, longevity, and satisfaction of life. It is not about what you weigh and how many calories you can cut from your day.
Once you have the right mindset, you can focus on the "how to" part of taking care of yourself. Eating cake every night after dinner, or drinking a sugary coffee every morning for breakfast is not going to give you the results that you are looking for. Not only will it not help you lose weight, but this type of eating can very easily take years off of your life. When you crave something, your body is telling you that you are missing specific nutrients. So if you learn to give your body the nutrients it needs, your cravings end up subsiding on their own.
This is not to say you do not need to make conscious decisions, at times, because you do. But, if you are eating the right types of foods, it will come more naturally to you. Foods like vegetables, fruits, lean meats, nuts & grains, and some dairy products contain just the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats that your body needs to thrive. Eating these types of foods, at each meal, rather than boxed and processed foods, will help to eliminate late night binging and those horrid cravings. It will also make you feel better about yourself; you will have better energy, self-esteem, and confidence; all from eating from a healthy food pyramid.
Make the conscious decision to eat healthy at every meal and within only a few weeks you will have changed your entire lifestyle; you will find that you naturally make wiser food choices. As if this wasn't good enough, you can even allow yourself your favorite desert every once in a while, and still reap the benefits of such diet. Once in a while means maybe once a week. If you notice you are giving in more often, remember your original focus - the desire to be healthy and live a long, satisfying life!
