About 60 million adults, or 30% of the adult population, are now obese. Similarly since 1980, overweight rates have doubled among children and tripled among adolescents - increasing the number of years they are exposed to the health risks of obesity.

Research and studies show that our children are growing fatter by the day. Many families all over Indonesia and many countries are struggling to keep the weight of their children within reasonable limits. As a parent, I know that it's nearly impossible for me to look into the tear-filled eyes of my son and refuse food. So, what's the alternative? Studies show that the number one reason for obesity in children is not junk food and colas. It's actually TV. Children tend to plop themselves on the sofa and munch away happily when they are in front of the TV sets. But, once the set is off, their natural buoyancy will lead the children to do stuff and to move their body.
Waist measurement, the amount of fat around your belly, is a quick and simple way to estimate the risk that abdominal fat poses to your health. Waist measurement should be made correctly. Waist measurement should be made1 cm below the belly button after having breathed out. No holding your belly in! For Men, a waist measurement exceeding 37 inches is associated with potential diseases.and a waist measurement exceeding 40 inches is associated with substantial health risk. For Women, a waist measurement exceeding 32 inches is associated with potential diseases and a waist measurement exceeding 35 inches is associated with substantial health risk. Waist measurement is now believed to be a much more accurate measure of future health risk than BMI alone.
Obesity is defined as having an excessive accumulation of body fat which will result in the person's body being about 20% heavier than their ideal body weight. So those people whose weight is above what is considered their ideal range, are defined as being overweight. People who are obese may find that they are not only physically unfit, but their well being is usually very low as well. Many obese people will also tend to have a shorter life expectancy than those who are the right weight for their body size. Plus, it can sometimes lead to social disabilities and unhappiness, which in turn may cause them stress and in some cases, may make them mentally ill as well.
Let's look at a typical family. Mum and dad get home from work tired out, the kids are sat in their bedrooms on the computer or games consoles munching on crisps and chocolate bars and drinking fizzy pop. Mum chucks some oven chips and pizza in for tea, mum and dad sit down in front of the telly while the kids go back to their games or computers. Does that sound familiar to you? With the pressures of work and home as well as the rising cost of living this has become the norm.Stop and take a look at your family, are you killing them? I know that sounds harsh but it's the truth. Not only are you not ensuring your kids have a healthy diet and enough exercise but you are denying them an education.
Here's a simple three step study with which I'd like to challenge every physical educator in the USA. It's really very simple, check it out. 1. Identify all the kids in your school who can perform at least one legitimate pull up. And by legitimate pull up I use the old "all the way up and all the way down rule." It says you start from all the way down (straight elbows), and pull all the way up (chin touching the bar). Everything else, including kicking, screaming, grunting, groaning, grimacing, and cursing (under your breath) is fair game. 2. Look over this list of kids and identify any of them who you'd consider obese. In other words, I want to know if any kids in your school are simultaneously able to do pull ups and are obese?

Elizabeth started gaining weight in high school and laughs that "my big hips come from my dad's side because my mother is extremely small." Elizabeth, who never knew her father, regularly braves the dating scene but says she knows lots of overweight women who don't dare: Some sisters "hold on to extra weight as physical and psychological protection against a hostile world. The thinking goes like this: If I am fat already, I don't have to concern myself about going out and trying to find a man, because I already know that most men want thin women. So many women think, 'Oh my God, if I lost weight, someone might actually be attracted to me and I might have a relationship-and risk being rejected for some other reason.
