Smoking cigarettes is a social problem. According to the American Lung Association, smoking is one of the most preventable causes of death in the United States. Many people like smoking. Of the 4,800 chemicals found in cigarettes, 69 of them are cancer-causing. There are around 8.6 million people in the US with a serious illness that is smoking-relate.

And, smokers take in poisons such as nicotine and carbon monoxide. If a mother smokes, so does her baby. These poisons get into the placenta, which is the tissue that connects the mother and the baby before it is born, they keep the unborn baby from getting the food and oxygen needed to grow.

We all know that smoking cause many illnesses such as cancer, breathing problem, heart disease and so on. But you should know that a second-hand smoker may be ill as the smokers. The combination of side stream smoke (the smoke given off by the burning end of a tobacco product) and mainstream smoke is what we called second-hand smoke . It is also called involuntary smoking or passive smoking. Between 7,500 and 15,000 hospitalizations of children less than 18 months are caused because of second-hand smoke. Public places where children go are a special area of concern. Any family member can develop health problems related to secondhand smoke. Children are especially sensitive.

Smoking leads people to develop health problems like cancer, emphysema (breakdown of lung tissue), organ damage, and heart disease. It has been linked to fertility problems in both men and women. This means that smoking now may cause you to be unable to have children later on in life. Girls who are on the pill or other hormone-based methods of birth control increase their risk of serious health problems, such as heart attacks, if they smoke. Studies show that smokers get more colds, flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia than nonsmokers

Through the information above, it can know that, not only the adults need to quit smoking but also the children who have a smoking habit. And the advice to the second-hand smokers is that you need to persuade your friends, family members who smoke quitting smoking.
