It's been stated that 1.3 million people will actually quit. That's an astounding number, and a great encouragement to those who are looking to quit! However, it's not astonishing after the whole statistic. That is 1.3 Million out of every 17 Million who ATTEMPT to quit! Before you give up, I have some encouragement, and some help to get you started on the proper quitting method for you.

Quite an encouraging title, isn't it? However, let me tell you another startling statistic that you might want to consider before saying "well, the odds are against me." Over 400,000 deaths a year are caused by some sort of tobacco related product. I want that number to sink into your head for just a few minutes.

If that number doesn't keep you thinking about your quitting process, then I don't know what will. The desperation of that number needs to put a fire under your feet so that you'll get a move on your goal to successfully removing that smoking urge.

Now, I'm not going to lie to you, the average quitter actually fails about 7 times before they actually become smoke free. But that shouldn't stop you either, because having a well thought out plan of attack will do you good, and ultimately will help you quit, an achievement much greater than the ultimate achievement of a smoker.

Why do so many fail? If you look at the various options available to the public to help them quit their smoking addiction, you'll notice that the majority of them have nicotine in them. Not that patches, gums, or pills are bad, or even ineffective, but have you ever considered what a nicotine addict might do if he or she still had access to nicotine?I would be bold enough to say that he or she might put another patch on, chew another piece of gum, or pop another pill, that's what!

If the nicotine craving is still there, then there is a greater chance of relapse. This leads to 'roller-coaster quitting.'

There is one option that is difficult for many, but almost always effective. That is to take control of your life through careful planning, strict habit-reformation, and a will to succeed. Never underestimate the power of your will.
